PV Sindhu Wins Historic Maiden Japan Open 2026 Title

PV Sindhu etched her name into Indian badminton history by clinching her maiden Japan Open Super 750 title with a commanding straight-games victory over home favourite and World No. 3 Akane Yamaguchi in the women's singles final at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

The Indian badminton star produced a composed and clinical performance, defeating Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-17 to become the first-ever Indian to win the prestigious Japan Open title. Sindhu's aggressive shot-making, sharp court coverage, and tactical discipline proved too strong for the Japanese ace in front of a passionate home crowd.

The victory marks a significant milestone in Sindhu's illustrious career as she finally lifts the Japan Open trophy after years of near misses. It also ends her 19-month wait for a major BWF World Tour title, reaffirming her status among the world's elite shuttlers.

Throughout the final, Sindhu maintained control of the rallies with powerful smashes, precise net play, and unwavering composure during crucial moments. Yamaguchi attempted several comebacks, but Sindhu responded confidently to close out both games without allowing the momentum to shift.

The historic triumph provides India with its first-ever Japan Open crown and gives Sindhu a timely confidence boost ahead of the BWF World Championships, where she will lead India's campaign next month.

Having added another prestigious Super 750 title to her collection, Sindhu has once again demonstrated her ability to rise to the occasion on the biggest stages. Her emphatic victory in Tokyo is expected to inject fresh optimism into Indian badminton as the international season reaches its decisive phase.

With this landmark success, PV Sindhu has not only ended India's long wait for a Japan Open champion but has also sent a strong message to her rivals ahead of the upcoming World Championships.
