R Praggnanandhaa scripted a major milestone in Indian chess by becoming the first Indian player to win the Grand Chess Tour (GCT) title. The young Indian Grandmaster defeated American chess star Fabiano Caruana in a thrilling grand finale in St. Louis to secure his maiden GCT championship.

Praggnanandhaa completed a remarkable comeback on Thursday after beginning the day behind Caruana.

Showing composure and determination under pressure, the Indian chess player turned the contest around and eventually prevailed 15-13.

The historic victory not only added another prestigious title to Praggnanandhaa’s growing career but also marked a landmark moment for Indian chess on the international stage.
