Waqar Younis chooses Tendulkar, Kohli and Dhoni in podcast comparisons
Waqar Younis favoured several Indian cricketers over their Pakistani counterparts during a recent appearance on the Shubhankar Mishra Podcast, according to reports. The former Pakistan captain answered a series of rapid-fire comparisons involving players from both countries.
His batting choices included Tendulkar ahead of Inzamam-ul-Haq and Kohli ahead of Babar Azam. He also selected Rahul Dravid when asked to compare him with Younis Khan.
In the bowling comparisons, Jasprit Bumrah received his backing over Shaheen Afridi, while Mohammed Shami was his preference over Mohammad Amir. Rohit Sharma and VVS Laxman were his selections against Fakhar Zaman and Misbah-ul-Haq respectively.
Dhoni gets the nod for finishing matches
Waqar Younis chose MS Dhoni over Javed Miandad and explained his preference when the discussion turned specifically to finishing games. He felt Dhoni had won more matches in that role, while acknowledging Miandad's contributions as well.
Saeed Anwar was the sole Pakistani player he selected in the reported comparisons. The former opener was his preference when paired against Virender Sehwag.
However, Waqar withheld a verdict on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sameer Minhas. He said he had not seen enough of either young player to make an informed selection.
Sooryavanshi has also featured in India's ongoing T20I series against New Zealand. He entered the side for the second match after an injury ruled out Ishan Kishan, but managed only four runs.
In the third game, he contributed 45 from 19 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and four sixes. India reached the 199-run target with six wickets remaining and secured a decisive 3-0 advantage in the five-match series.
