Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar has accused workers of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) of attacking BJP supporters near the office of the Election Commission of India, intensifying political tensions in West Bengal ahead of upcoming elections.
Speaking on the incident, Majumdar claimed that TMC’s “desperation is growing day by day” and alleged that party workers resorted to violence even as BJP supporters were peacefully standing outside the Election Commission premises.
He described the incident as reflective of what he termed the “true face” of the Trinamool Congress, accusing the ruling party of fostering a culture of political violence in the state.
The Union Minister further stressed the need for stringent measures to ensure free and fair elections. He called for strict enforcement of law and order, warning that without robust intervention, it would be difficult for the Election Commission of India to conduct impartial polls.
The Trinamool Congress has not yet issued an official response to the allegations. The development adds to the already charged political atmosphere in West Bengal, where clashes between rival party workers have been a recurring concern during election periods.
