Sukhendu Sekhar Roy Breaks Silence on Threats

Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy has claimed that he faced sustained threats and intimidation after publicly demanding custodial interrogation of senior officials in connection with the RG Kar incident.

Speaking after joining the BJP, Roy said he was the only Member of Parliament among nearly 800 MPs to openly demand the arrest and custodial questioning of the then Kolkata Police Commissioner and the Principal of RG Kar Medical College, alleging that evidence in the case was being tampered with.

Roy stated that following his remarks, he received two notices from Lalbazar in a single day. Although he submitted medical certificates citing ill health, he alleged that the authorities ignored his condition, forcing him to approach the Calcutta High Court for relief.

The former Rajya Sabha MP further claimed that he received repeated death threats over the phone for several months. According to Roy, the callers allegedly threatened to kill him and kidnap his daughter and granddaughter.

He also said he did not resign earlier because he feared for his life, alleging that an atmosphere of fear prevailed in West Bengal. Roy claimed he was concerned about being targeted by contract killers and referred to the deaths of several BJP workers in the state.

The remarks come shortly after Roy joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking a significant political shift in West Bengal. His allegations are likely to intensify political debate over law and order and the handling of the RG Kar case in the state.
