TMC suspends Two MLAs for alleging signature forgery

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) suspended two of its MLAs — Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha — from the party’s primary membership with immediate effect on Monday, over allegations of anti-party activities.

People aware of the development said that the decision has been communicated to both legislators through official channels and the party has also informed the Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly about the disciplinary action.

The move comes amid a controversy surrounding an alleged signature-forgery dispute in the Assembly. Reports suggest that Banerjee and Saha had recently met senior BJP leader and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari regarding the issue, a development that reportedly triggered resentment within the TMC leadership.

In its statement, the party accused the two legislators of engaging in activities detrimental to the organisation’s interests. While the TMC did not publicly elaborate on the specific charges, the action is being viewed as part of the party’s attempt to enforce discipline amid growing internal dissent following its defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.

Reacting to the suspension, Sandipan Saha reportedly criticised the party’s decision, alleging that those who raised concerns over the controversy were being punished instead of being heard.
