Treesa-Gayatri Reflect on Historic World Championships Bronze

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand speak to the media after their BWF World Championships semifinal loss in New Delhi.

India's Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand admitted they “lacked patience” after their women's doubles semifinal defeat to defending champions and world No. 1 pair Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning at the BWF World Championships in New Delhi.

The unseeded Indian duo made a strong start, winning the opening game 21-18. However, Liu and Tan fought back to take the second game 21-13 before sealing the deciding game 21-8 in a 71-minute contest.

Despite the defeat, Treesa and Gayatri secured a maiden World Championships bronze medal, marking a historic achievement for Indian women's doubles badminton.

The medal is India's first women's doubles World Championships medal since Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won bronze in 2011, ending a 15-year wait in the category.

The result caps an impressive campaign for the Indian pair, who entered the tournament unseeded and produced a breakthrough run on home soil in New Delhi.
