UN Chief António Guterres Welcomes Iran’s Move to Reopen Strait of Hormuz, Calls for Full Navigation Rights

By Editorial Team
António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has welcomed Iran’s decision to keep the Strait of Hormuz open for all commercial vessels during the ongoing ceasefire period. Calling the move “a step in the right direction,” Guterres emphasized that the UN’s position remains firm on ensuring the full restoration of international navigational rights and freedoms in the vital maritime corridor. He stressed that these rights must be respected by all parties involved. The UN chief also expressed hope that this development, alongside the ceasefire, would help build trust among stakeholders and contribute to strengthening diplomatic engagement. He highlighted that ongoing dialogue efforts are currently being facilitated by Pakistan, aiming to ease tensions in the region. The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, has been at the center of geopolitical tensions, making any move toward stability significant for global trade and energy security.
