Women to Travel Free on State Buses in West Bengal from June 1
The West Bengal Government has announced the launch of free bus travel for women on all state-operated buses across the state, effective June 1, 2026. The initiative was highlighted by BJP West Bengal on social media, describing it as a major step toward empowering women and enhancing their mobility, safety, and financial independence.
According to the statement, the scheme fulfills a key commitment made under the BJP's 'Bhorsar Sopoth' manifesto and is being implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The party stated that the move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of women-led development and aims to provide greater accessibility and freedom of movement for women across Bengal.
The government emphasized that ensuring the safety, dignity, and empowerment of women remains a top priority. Officials stated that the free transit scheme is expected to benefit millions of women commuters, reducing transportation costs and encouraging greater participation in education, employment, and social activities.
The BJP also reiterated its commitment to building a secure, prosperous, and self-reliant "Sonar Bangla" through welfare-oriented governance and the fulfillment of electoral promises.
