Assam’s GI-Tagged Tezpur Litchi Reaches Dubai in Landmark Export Boost

Assam’s renowned GI-tagged Tezpur litchi has achieved a major milestone by entering the international market, with its first export consignment successfully shipped to Dubai.

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal announced that the premium-quality fruit from Assam is now reaching global consumers, marking a significant step forward for agricultural exports from Northeast India.

The first export shipment was facilitated with the support of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), which has been working to expand market access for Indian agricultural products worldwide.

Highlighting the significance of the development, Goyal said the export initiative will help Tezpur litchi gain international recognition, ensure better returns for farmers, and open new opportunities for agricultural exports from the Northeast region.

Tezpur litchi, known for its distinctive taste, aroma, and quality, received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, recognizing its unique origin and characteristics. The export to Dubai is expected to strengthen the fruit’s global brand value and encourage more farmers to participate in export-oriented cultivation.

The development aligns with the Government of India's efforts to promote agricultural exports, empower farmers, and showcase India's diverse GI-tagged products in international markets.
