Australia stun Turkiye, Scotland begin with win over Haiti

Australia and Scotland began their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaigns with victories, beating Turkey and Haiti respectively to boost their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

Australia were clinical qnd disciplined to conquer Turkey 2-0 in their Group D opener in Atlanta.

The Socceroos went ahead midway in the first half through Nestory Irankunda, who became their youngest scorer in the tournament’s history.

Connor Metcalfe then increased the margin in the 75th minute with a low, powerful strike from outside the box.

Earlier in Boston, Scotland defeated Haiti 1-0 in Group C to make a winning return to the tournament since 1990.

Midfielder John McGinn scored the latch winner as his deflected shot landed in the net in the 28th minute.
