CII Global MSME Summit Highlights Opportunities and Challenges
New Delhi: Shreekant Somany, Chairman and Managing Director of Somany Ceramics Ltd., called for stronger collaboration between micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the government and industries to capitalise on opportunities emerging from global economic changes. Speaking at the 23rd CII Global MSME Business Summit in Delhi, he highlighted challenges related to tariffs, rising costs and access to finance.
Somany said ongoing global changes present both opportunities and challenges for MSMEs, making cooperation among businesses, industry bodies and policymakers increasingly important.
MSMEs Need Stronger Government-Industry Collaboration
Addressing the summit, Somany stressed that MSMEs and the government must work together with industries to make the most of changing global conditions.
He noted that businesses continue to face headwinds such as tariffs, costs and financing constraints. However, he said these challenges also create opportunities for enterprises that can adapt to evolving market conditions.
According to Somany, coordinated efforts can help MSMEs respond to these changes and strengthen their ability to participate in the global economy.
Somany Highlights Government Support for MSMEs
Somany acknowledged the government's focus on the MSME sector, stating that its policies have demonstrated attention to the needs of smaller businesses.
He pointed to the importance of government initiatives in supporting the sector as enterprises navigate financial and operational challenges.
At the same time, he emphasised the need for continued engagement between industry representatives and policymakers to ensure that business requirements are communicated effectively.
CII Continues to Share Industry Inputs
Somany also highlighted the role of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in communicating industry concerns and recommendations to the government.
He said CII has been regularly providing inputs on measures needed to support MSMEs and address their challenges.
The discussions at the 23rd CII Global MSME Business Summit underscored the importance of cooperation between businesses and the government in helping MSMEs navigate global uncertainties, improve their resilience and explore emerging growth opportunities.
