In a significant step to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections, the Election Commission of India has deployed a total of 1,111 observers for the ongoing General Elections to the Legislative Assemblies of Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, along with by-elections in six other states. These observers, drawn from the ranks of senior civil servants, play a crucial role in overseeing the conduct of elections on the ground. Their responsibilities include monitoring adherence to the Model Code of Conduct, supervising polling arrangements, ensuring expenditure compliance, and addressing any irregularities or complaints during the electoral process. The large-scale deployment underscores the Commission’s commitment to strengthening electoral integrity amid high-stakes contests across multiple regions. Observers are stationed across constituencies to provide real-time feedback and ensure that polling is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner. With multi-phase elections underway in several states, the presence of these observers is expected to enhance transparency and boost voter confidence in the democratic process. The Election Commission has reiterated that it remains vigilant and proactive in addressing challenges, ensuring that the electoral process remains robust, inclusive, and credible.
