High Voter Turnout in Assam Polls 2026; BJP vs Congress Battle Intensifies

Voting for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections is currently underway today, April 9, 2026. This is a high-stakes election where the BJP-led NDA is seeking a third consecutive term, while the Congress-led alliance aims to return to power. Voter Turnout: As of 1:00 PM, the state recorded a significant turnout of 59.63%. ​Constituency Highlights: Dudhnoi (Goalpara district) reported the highest turnout so far at 66.11%. ​Dibrugarh witnessed the lowest turnout at 50.85%. ​Weather Conditions: Polling has remained steady despite overcast skies and rains in several parts of the state. ​Polling Stations: Webcasting is being used in all 31,490 polling stations to monitor the process in real-time. Single-Phase Election: Unlike previous years, all 126 constituencies are voting in a single phase today. ​Prominent Voters: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma cast his vote in Jalukbari, while Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi voted in Jorhat.
