INDIA Bloc to write to CJI over SIR, demand Education Minister's resignation for exam paper leaks

Top opposition leaders of the INDIA bloc projected a show of unity on Monday while slammed the BJP government over electoral roll revision, soaring inflation and unemployment, alleged misuse of democractic institutions, exam paper leaks and counterproductive foreign policy.

The opposition alliance had agreed to write to the Chief Justice of India over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise undertaken for "stealing elections" and demanded the immediate resignation of the Union Education Minister Dharmendar Pradhan for failure to prevent NEET and CBSE examination paper leaks.

"It was agreed to send a letter to the Chief Justice of India on SIR, vote loot and stealing elections. The letter is to be delivered to the Chief Justice of India very soon. Second point, it was unanimously agreed to demand the immediate resignation of the Education Minister because he presided over the betrayal of lakhs of youth who appeared for NEET and CBSE examinations," Kharge said.

Leaders from 23 parties, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha's leader of the opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee attended the meeting in New Delhi.

Afterwards, while briefing the press, Kharge insisted the opposition must unitedly fight the BJP to safeguard democracy and constitutional values, while
accusing the ruling party of eroding the independence of constitutional institutions.

“India’s foreign policy has been severely compromised. Crores of people are being deprived of their voting rights through the electoral roll revision process,” he said.

“The country is facing serious challenges. We have to stand united and fight together to protect democracy and the Constitution.

NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule pointed out economic issues in the wake of fuel and gas price increases that left the country's citizens severely stressed.

“Inflation, unemployment and corruption remain the biggest concerns for ordinary citizens. These issues must remain at the centre of our politics,” Sule said.

DMK skipped the meeting though CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya downplayed it while NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar harped on the need for opposition unity.

“The DMK may not be present today, but it remains part of the broader opposition effort,” Bhattacharya said.

“The need of the hour is to strengthen opposition unity and work together on issues affecting the people,” Pawar said.
