India-US Relations Remain Strong and Will Improve Further, Says Piyush Goyal
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that India-US relations remain βvery goodβ and will continue to improve irrespective of changes in political thinking in either country. He described the bilateral partnership as consequential for the world, driven by shared economic, political and security interests.
Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy event, Goyal emphasised that the relationship extends beyond trade to include defence cooperation, technology, critical minerals and people-to-people engagement.
The minister noted that the United States is India's largest trading partner and expressed confidence that it would remain so in the coming years. He also said he did not foresee any major problems with bilateral agreements between the two countries.
Goyal highlighted the continued engagement between India and the US in defence exercises and efforts to maintain open supply chains for technology, goods and services. He asserted that the partnership draws strength from the economic, political and security imperatives of both nations.
βThe US and India have a very, very consequential relationship and it's only going to get better irrespective of changes in political thinking, whether in India or in the US,β Goyal said.
His remarks come as India and the United States continue negotiations on a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). The framework for the proposed pact was announced in February, but changes in the US tariff landscape have necessitated further negotiations.
The ongoing discussions are aimed at advancing bilateral trade ties while addressing evolving trade and tariff-related challenges between the two countries.
