Lionel Messi’s Father Jorge Messi Dies at 68

Jorge Messi, the father and longtime agent of football superstar Lionel Messi, has died at the age of 68. According to reports from Argentine media and family notifications sent to local clubs, Jorge passed away on Friday evening at a medical centre in Rosario following a prolonged battle with a serious illness.

A native of Rosario, Jorge played a significant role in shaping his son's remarkable football career. He worked as a manager at a steel factory while also coaching Lionel during his early years at local youth club Grandoli.

Recognising Lionel's exceptional talent from an early age, Jorge made a crucial decision in 2000 to travel with his 13-year-old son to Spain. The move ultimately paved the way for Lionel's historic career at FC Barcelona. One of the most famous stories from that period is the initial agreement with Barcelona, which was famously written on a paper napkin.

Jorge remained a key figure in Lionel's career for decades, serving as his representative and helping guide the footballer's professional journey from his teenage years to global superstardom.
