West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee visited St. Lucy Church on Tuesday, where she offered prayers for peace, unity, and the well-being of all communities.
During her visit to Batabari in Jalpaiguri, the Chief Minister spent time interacting with members of the local Christian community, including church leaders and residents. The visit underscored her continued emphasis on Bengal’s long-standing tradition of communal harmony and inclusivity.
Speaking about the significance of the visit, Banerjee highlighted the “timeless ethos” of Bengal, where all faiths coexist with mutual respect and dignity. The serene atmosphere of the church, she noted, symbolised the spirit of unity that defines the state’s social fabric.

Later, taking to social media, the Chief Minister shared her experience of engaging with the people of Jalpaiguri. She expressed gratitude for the warmth and affection she received, describing the interactions as deeply meaningful.
“I was once again touched by the warmth and affection of the people of Jalpaiguri, who have always received me with such generosity of spirit,” she said.
“The people of Bengal remain closest to my heart. They are my greatest strength and inspiration.”
Mamata Banerjee also reflected on her visit to the church, where she prayed for peace and prosperity, while calling for unity against divisive forces.
“I pray to the Almighty to guide us, protect us from forces of division and discrimination, and keep us united as one family,” she added.
The visit forms part of her ongoing outreach across districts, aimed at strengthening grassroots connections and reinforcing messages of social cohesion ahead of key political developments in the state.
