Messi Makes World Cup History as Argentina Win
Lionel Messi set a record by becoming the first player to score in seven successive men's World Cup matches as reigning champions Argentina defeated Jordan 3-1 to advance into the knockouts as Group J winners.
The 39-year-old captain came off the bench and found the net in the second half to continue a remarkable scoring streak stretching back to the 2022 World Cup.
He was on the pitch for around half an hour and scored with a sublime free-kick to further extend his lead in the Golden Boot race with six and net a record 19th goal of the World Cup.
Giovani Lo Celso gave Argentina the lead with an exquisite free-kick, then a penalty from Lautaro Martinez followed by Messi's set-piece.
Already eliminated Jordan ended the tournament on a positive note by scoring against the defending champions through Mousa Altamari's sliding effort from close range.
