Rahul Gandhi Targets Amit Shah Over Delhi Police and Women’s Safety
Rahul Gandhi has questioned the functioning of the Delhi Police and the accountability of Union Home Minister Amit Shah following the alleged rape and murder of a teenage girl in Delhi. Gandhi alleged that while criminals were moving around without fear, the Delhi Police’s role had been reduced to “intimidating and threatening ordinary citizens.”
The remarks came after the alleged rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area. According to reports, her body was found in an open field on September 13, with police investigations indicating that the crime had taken place earlier. Four people, including three juveniles, were subsequently apprehended in connection with the case.
Rahul Gandhi Questions Amit Shah Over Delhi Police
Rahul Gandhi directly questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah over responsibility for women’s safety in the national capital. Since the Delhi Police functions under the Union Home Ministry, Gandhi asked who should be held accountable for maintaining women’s security in Delhi.
In a post on X, Gandhi referred to the alleged crime against the teenager and questioned how such an incident could occur in the national capital. He alleged that the police had no information about the crime for several days.
Gandhi further questioned whether the Delhi Police had effectively been reduced to intimidating and threatening ordinary citizens while criminals were allegedly roaming freely.
His comments have added to the political debate over law and order and women’s safety in Delhi.
What Happened in the Delhi Case?
According to reports, the teenage girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered before her body was dumped in an open area near Kushak Road in the Swaroop Nagar area.
Police reportedly examined CCTV footage from more than 50 cameras during the investigation. Four people were subsequently apprehended, including a 19-year-old man and three juveniles aged between 16 and 17, according to reports.
The police action followed the discovery of the girl’s body and the subsequent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Rahul Gandhi Demands Immediate Action
Rahul Gandhi called for the immediate arrest and strict punishment of those responsible for the alleged crime. He also demanded accountability over what he described as “criminal negligence.”
Gandhi argued that ensuring women’s safety is essential for the country’s progress. His statement placed the Delhi Police and the Union Home Ministry under political scrutiny following the incident.
