Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan Elected Speaker of the 16th Kerala Legislative Assembly

Senior Congress leader and Kottayam MLA Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has been elected as the Speaker of the 16th Kerala Legislative Assembly following a voting process held in the Assembly.

The result was officially announced by Pro-tem Speaker G Sudhakaran. A total of 139 legislators participated in the voting process, while the Pro-tem Speaker did not cast a vote.

Three candidates contested for the Speaker's post:
• Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan (UDF) – 101 votes
• A C Moideen (LDF) – 35 votes
• B B Gopakumar (BJP) – 3 votes

The victory marks an important development in Kerala's legislative landscape, with Radhakrishnan now taking charge of presiding over Assembly proceedings and maintaining parliamentary conduct within the House.

His election comes at a significant political moment, with attention focused on the functioning and direction of the newly formed Assembly.
