VVS Laxman Says Defending Asian Games Gold Is “Definitely Special”
India continued their dominance in Asian Games T20 cricket by defeating Pakistan to claim the gold medal in Japan, successfully defending the title they won at the previous Asian Games in China.
India men's cricket team head coach VVS Laxman described the achievement as a special moment for the players, highlighting the significance of winning an Asian Games gold medal.
“It's definitely special… to defend the gold medal. Two years back, we won in China, and again now,” Laxman said.
The former India batter noted that while several members of the squad have already experienced World Cup success, the Asian Games gold represented a new and memorable achievement for many of them.
Laxman also praised the team's ability to remain united despite challenging conditions in Japan. Persistent rain affected the team's preparations after their arrival in Tokyo and continued to follow them at the tournament venue.
“I thought we really stuck together and played well,” Laxman said, expressing his happiness with the team's performance and the result.
The victory over Pakistan adds another significant achievement to India's Asian Games cricket campaign and gives the men's team back-to-back gold medals in the competition.
