Amit Shah Challenges Opposition to Debate in Parliament

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday challenged the Opposition to engage in a detailed parliamentary debate, saying he was ready to participate in discussions from 3 PM and continue until 3 PM the following day.

विपक्ष लोकसभा अध्यक्ष जी के पास चर्चा का पत्र दे, आज दोपहर 3 बजे से कल दोपहर 3 बजे तक हम चर्चा करने के लिए तैयार हैं। मैं कल विपक्ष के एक-एक सवाल का जवाब दूँगा।

Addressing the Opposition, Shah said they should submit a letter to the Speaker by 2 PM so that the discussion could begin at 3 PM. He said he was prepared to sit through the debate, take notes on all the points raised and provide answers by 3 PM the next day.

Shah stressed that Parliament has established rules and procedures for conducting discussions and argued that a serious issue could not be addressed merely through a statement.

He said he was even prepared for the discussion to continue late into the night and offered to suspend Question Hour if the Speaker permitted it.

The Home Minister said the extended debate would allow every aspect of the matter to be discussed and clarified before the people of the country.

Shah ultimately put the decision before the Opposition, asking whether it wanted to participate in a parliamentary discussion or continue creating an uproar in the House.

The remarks come amid continuing political tensions in Parliament, with the Opposition pressing for a discussion on the issue and the government insisting that parliamentary procedures be followed.
