Argentina Stun England to Reach FIFA World Cup Final

Defending champions Argentina booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final after an incredible 2-1 comeback victory over England, setting up a blockbuster title clash with Spain on Sunday.

England looked set to reach their first World Cup final in six decades after Anthony Gordon opened the scoring in the 55th minute, finishing expertly from Morgan Rogers' low cross.

However, Lionel Scaloni's side responded with remarkable determination. With England retreating deeper into their own half,

Argentina piled on relentless pressure. Jordan Pickford denied substitute Nico Gonzalez with a brilliant save, while Alexis Mac Allister struck the post as the South Americans searched for an equaliser.

The breakthrough finally arrived when Lionel Messi, from a well-worked short-corner routine, found Enzo Fernandez, whose spectacular strike from outside the penalty area beat Pickford to level the match.
Deep into stoppage time, Argentina completed the turnaround. After Mac Allister's effort hit the post, Messi recovered possession and delivered a pinpoint cross that Lisandro Martinez powered home at the far post, sending Argentina into their seventh FIFA World Cup final.

Messi once again proved decisive, providing both assists and earning the Player of the Match award. The Argentine captain also created history by becoming the oldest outfield player to appear in a FIFA World Cup semi-final, featuring at 39 years and 21 days, surpassing the long-standing record jointly held by Fritz Walter and Gunnar Gren since 1958.

Argentina will now aim to successfully defend their world title when they face Spain in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final, while England's wait for another World Cup final appearance continues.
