Jaishankar Highlights India-EU TTC Milestones

India and the European Union have taken another significant step towards deepening their strategic partnership following the 3rd India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) meeting, with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar highlighting the growing trust and cooperation between the two sides.

Addressing the meeting, Jaishankar said that India and the EU share a natural partnership as open societies and market economies, emphasizing that the rule of law and the sanctity of contracts remain fundamental to both.

He noted that the trust built over the years is now expanding into the business and technology sectors, paving the way for stronger collaboration in innovation, research and industrial development.

A major announcement from the meeting was the decision to begin negotiations for India's association with the Horizon Europe programme, the European Union's flagship research and innovation initiative. This move is expected to create greater opportunities for Indian researchers, startups and technology institutions to collaborate with European counterparts.

The minister also highlighted the progress of joint research initiatives in key sectors, including waste-to-green hydrogen technologies, marine pollution mitigation and electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling, with several projects already reaching the pilot-scale validation stage.

In another key development, India and the EU agreed to establish the first Innovation Hub on EV Charging Infrastructure Standards, aimed at promoting interoperability, sustainable mobility and technological cooperation in the rapidly expanding electric vehicle ecosystem.

Jaishankar underlined that the India-EU partnership is poised to reach greater heights, citing the progress achieved this year through negotiations on the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the Security and Defence Partnership, and the Mobility Framework.

The latest TTC meeting reflects the shared commitment of India and the European Union to strengthening economic resilience, technological innovation and sustainable development through closer strategic cooperation.
