Asian Games 2026: China Crosses 130 Golds as Continental Breadth Expands to 40 Medal-Winning Nations

China continued its dominant run at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Day 9, crossing the 130-gold mark and strengthening its position at the top of the medal standings.

China added to its impressive haul across athletics, combat sports and shooting, taking its tally to 132 gold, 53 silver and 45 bronze medals, for a total of 230 medals.

Japan Maintains Second Place

Host nation Japan continued to hold second place on the medal table. Strong performances across combat disciplines and team events helped Japan reach 41 gold medals and 172 medals overall.

South Korea Remains Third

The Republic of Korea retained third position with 21 gold medals and 90 medals in total, maintaining a gap over the nations chasing the leading trio.

40 NOCs Now on the Medal Table

The Games also reached a significant milestone on Day 9, with 40 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) having won at least one medal.

The growing spread of medals across Central Asia, South Asia and the Middle East reflects the increasing competitive depth of Asian sport, with more nations making their presence felt on the continental stage.
