Big Relief for Bengal Farmers: Suvendu Adhikari Announces Massive Central Funding After Delhi Meeting
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday announced significant financial support for the state's agriculture and rural development sectors following a meeting with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Adhikari said that agriculture remains the backbone of West Bengal's economy, with nearly 60–65 percent of the state's population directly dependent on farming and allied activities.

Describing the discussions as "fruitful," the Chief Minister thanked the Union Government for extending substantial financial assistance to the state. According to Adhikari, the Centre has sanctioned nearly ₹1,000 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), with the funds expected to be released in two phases.

He further stated that more than ₹700 crore would be transferred under a new rural development scheme that is set to replace the existing MGNREGA framework.
The Chief Minister also alleged that corruption and anti-farmer policies under the previous state administration had adversely impacted the agricultural sector. He said that detailed discussions were held on improving farmer welfare and strengthening Bengal's agricultural ecosystem, with Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan sharing a roadmap for the state's farming community.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of Bengal's farmers, Adhikari said the Centre's support would help accelerate rural infrastructure development and boost agricultural growth across the state.
The Chief Minister also revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit West Bengal on June 20, coinciding with the state's foundation day celebrations. During the visit, PM Modi is likely to release PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi benefits for farmers across the country.
Adhikari expressed confidence that West Bengal would witness accelerated development under what he described as a "double-engine government," highlighting stronger coordination between the Centre and the state administration.
