Major Healthcare Boost: West Bengal Comes on Board Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY
In a major milestone for India's public healthcare system, West Bengal has officially joined the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), completing the scheme's nationwide rollout.

The National Health Authority (NHA) announced the development after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of West Bengal. With the state's inclusion, Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY will now provide health insurance coverage to approximately 1.43 crore families across West Bengal.

The landmark agreement is expected to significantly strengthen healthcare access for millions of beneficiaries, enabling eligible families to avail cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals under the flagship health protection scheme.

Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY is the world's largest government-funded health assurance programme, offering financial protection against major medical expenses and improving access to quality healthcare services for economically vulnerable families.
Officials stated that the inclusion of West Bengal marks a crucial step toward ensuring universal health coverage and expanding healthcare benefits to every eligible citizen across the country.
The collaboration between the National Health Authority and the West Bengal government is expected to streamline healthcare delivery, reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses, and improve health outcomes for millions of residents in the state.
