According to Goyal, GeM’s Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) has surged from ₹422 crore a decade ago to more than ₹1,55,000 crore today, reflecting the platform’s growing role in government procurement.
The minister said that more than 12.28 lakh Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) are registered on the platform, including over 2.25 lakh women-led enterprises. More than 42,000 startups have also registered on GeM.
Goyal said the digital procurement platform has helped increase competition, improve price discovery, reduce procurement cycle times and generate significant savings for the government. Its end-to-end digital procurement system has also strengthened transparency and accountability.
Over the past decade, GeM has expanded access to government markets for MSEs, startups, women entrepreneurs, Self Help Groups (SHGs), artisans and weavers. The platform has also supported the government’s Vocal for Local and Make in India initiatives.
Goyal described GeM as an increasingly important driver of self-reliance and the Viksit Bharat vision, with the platform helping create wider opportunities for smaller businesses and entrepreneurs to participate in government procurement.
