Ronaldo launches his sixth World Cup campaign for Portugal
Portugal football icon Cristiano Ronaldo began training with the squad on Tuesday as preparations gathered pace for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The 41-year-old forward remains the headliner for Portugal, who would be eyeing to finally end their years of underachievement with their maiden title.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner took part in the team's training session alongside fellow internationals as coach Roberto Martinez fine-tuned his plans for the tournament.
He is aiming to add World Cup glory to his illustrious career and announced that he is all set for the “World Mission”.
The Portugal team's official social media handle posted a picture of their training session, with the players posing together with smiles on their faces.
“The World Mission Begins!,” Ronaldo wrote in the caption of a picture posted on his social media account,
Ronaldo will be making a record-tying sixth FIFA World Cup appearance this year, having made his tournament debut in 2006.
Portugal begin their campaign against DR Congo on June 17, followed by Uzbekistan on June 23, and Colombia their last group stage game on June 27.
Ronaldo arrives at the World Cup after helping Al Nassr lift their 11th Saudi Pro League (SPL) title, securing his first league crown in Saudi Arabia since joining the club in January 2023.
