Tere Naam, Rangeela Sequels Confirmed: Will Salman Khan and Urmila Matondkar Return?
Eros Innovation Announces New Franchise Universe
Eros Innovation, the technology and content arm of Eros International, has unveiled an ambitious slate of projects built around three major initiatives—Eros Brahmand, Eros Universe and Eros Remastered. The announcement was made during London Tech Week, signaling the company's plans to expand beloved film properties while developing original mythology-inspired stories.
The new strategy aims to blend classic cinema, franchise storytelling and artificial intelligence-driven content creation to engage audiences across multiple formats.
Tere Naam, Rangeela and Other Hit Films Getting Sequels
Under the Eros Universe banner, six popular Bollywood titles will be expanded into franchise properties with fresh stories and new characters. The lineup includes:
- Tanu Weds Manu – The Next Chapter
- Tere Naam
- Rangeela
- English Vinglish
- Desi Boyz
- Phobia
While the sequels are officially in development, the return of the original stars remains uncertain.
This suggests Salman Khan may not reprise his iconic role as Radhe in the sequel to Tere Naam, one of the most acclaimed performances of his career. Similarly, fans should not expect Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar to necessarily return for the new chapter of Rangeela.
Released in 1995, Rangeela was directed by Ram Gopal Varma and became a landmark musical hit that established Urmila Matondkar as a leading Bollywood star. Tere Naam (2003), directed by the late Satish Kaushik, was both a critical and commercial success.
What About Tanu Weds Manu – The Next Chapter?
Among the announced projects, Tanu Weds Manu – The Next Chapter has generated significant curiosity. The original films starred Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan and became cult favourites among audiences.
However, Eros has not confirmed whether the actors will return for the new installment. The project will be directed by Mitakshara Kumar, known for Heeramandi and The Empire, and is expected to begin production in 2026.
Eros Brahmand to Launch Mythology-Based Cinematic Universe
The company's biggest announcement is Eros Brahmand, a mythology-inspired cinematic universe powered by AI-driven storytelling.
The interconnected universe will consist of nine original titles:
- Nandi – War of Kailasa
- Dwaarka: Gateway to the Universe
- Vimaan Wars
- Mahabharat 5000 A.D.
- Yakshinis
- Brahmarakshak
- Garuda
- Kumbhayanna
- Mansa Devi
Drawing inspiration from Indian mythology and folklore, these projects will be connected through a shared storytelling universe.
Speaking about the initiative, Eros founder and chairman Kishore Lulla said the company aims to bring together original mythology-inspired stories, iconic film franchises and restored classics under one creative umbrella.
Eros Remastered to Restore Classic Films
The third pillar of the company's strategy, Eros Remastered, will focus on restoring and reimagining classic films for modern audiences.
The initiative will begin with Kochadaiiyaan, India's first motion-capture feature film starring Rajinikanth. The restoration project will be led by Soundarya Rajinikanth and aims to introduce the film to a new generation of viewers.
Expanding Stories Beyond Films
According to Eros, these franchises will not be limited to feature films. The company plans to expand the properties into animation, microdramas and character-driven digital content, creating a broader entertainment ecosystem around established titles.
With sequels to some of Bollywood's most memorable films and an ambitious mythology-based universe in development, Eros is positioning itself for a major expansion in the entertainment space.
