'A Very Satisfying Tenure': General Anil Chauhan Bids Emotional Farewell to Uniform
Outgoing Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan bid an emotional farewell to military service after receiving a ceremonial Tri-Services Guard of Honour at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, General Chauhan described the moment as a great honour and expressed gratitude to the three armed services and Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) for the ceremonial farewell.
"It is a matter of great honour for me to stand and receive the Tri-Services Guard of Honour. I thank the three services and Headquarters IDS for it," he said.
The outgoing CDS also reflected on his final moments in uniform, including laying a wreath at the National War Memorial in tribute to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
"With the conclusion of the Guard of Honour, I bid farewell to my colleagues in uniform, comrades in arms forever. I just laid a wreath at the War Memorial for the last time in uniform, as a humble tribute to those who laid down their lives in the line of duty," General Chauhan remarked.
He noted that being welcomed by friends, relatives, and well-wishers after the wreath-laying ceremony symbolized his transition from military service to civilian life.
Describing his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, General Chauhan said he had a "very satisfying and excellent tenure," expressing pride in serving the nation and working alongside the men and women of India's armed forces.
The farewell ceremony marked the culmination of a distinguished military career spanning over four decades, during which General Chauhan played a pivotal role in strengthening India's defence preparedness, jointness among the armed forces, and strategic military planning.
