Abhishek Banerjee Alleges Brutal Attack in Sonarpur, Vows Fight Up to Supreme Court

Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee alleged that he was attacked during a visit to Sonarpur and accused authorities of failing to prevent the violence despite being informed about the situation.

Addressing reporters after the incident, Banerjee claimed that security personnel accompanying him had alerted their superiors, but no additional force arrived at the spot. He alleged that the lack of intervention indicated a deliberate failure to stop the violence.

"If the two security officials posted with me are reporting the incident to their superiors, yet no force is arriving, then it's clear that the higher authorities want this entire incident to continue," Banerjee said.

The TMC leader further alleged that bricks, stones, and eggs were hurled at him and his supporters. He claimed to have sustained injuries to his eye, back, chest, arm, and leg during the incident. According to Banerjee, he was protected from a more serious head injury because he was wearing a helmet.

Banerjee also alleged that individuals had been assembled in a nearby community hall since the morning and accused them of orchestrating the stone-pelting. He stated that his party possesses video evidence of the incident and would pursue legal action.

"We have everything recorded. We will go to court. I will go up to the Supreme Court to fight this case," he said.

Despite the alleged attack, Banerjee maintained a defiant stance, asserting that the support he received from local residents remained strong.

"You can make my body fall, but my resolve is strong. The passion and enthusiasm are still there, and this head won't bow down," he added.

The incident has intensified the political confrontation in West Bengal, with the allegations likely to trigger further debate over law and order and political violence in the state.
