India Aid to Nepal: 5.5 Tonnes of Medicines and Rescue Team Dispatched

India Aid to Nepal has been stepped up as New Delhi dispatched a fifth tranche of emergency assistance to flood-ravaged Nepal on Wednesday. The latest consignment includes more than five tonnes of essential medicines, along with an 11-member rescue team equipped with specialised equipment.

The latest assistance comes as Nepal continues to deal with the devastating impact of last week's flash floods. According to Nepalese authorities, the death toll has crossed 1,000, while thousands of people are still reported missing. Search and rescue operations are continuing across the affected areas.

India Sends Fifth Tranche of Relief Materials

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the fifth Indian aircraft carrying emergency assistance had departed for Nepal.

The aircraft is carrying an 11-member rescue team, specialised equipment and 5.5 tonnes of essential medicines, providing additional support to ongoing humanitarian and rescue operations.

The latest shipment is part of India's wider relief effort following the devastating floods in Nepal. New Delhi has already supplied a total of 68.5 tonnes of relief materials to the neighbouring country.

Rescue and Medical Teams Deployed

India's assistance has extended beyond the supply of relief materials. Earlier, New Delhi sent a team comprising doctors and paramedics to support emergency medical requirements in flood-affected areas.

A technical contingent was also dispatched along with equipment intended to assist local authorities with search and rescue operations.

The latest 11-member rescue team is expected to further strengthen these ongoing efforts as teams continue searching affected areas and assisting people impacted by the floods.

Nepal Floods: Death Toll Crosses 1,000

The scale of the disaster has continued to emerge as rescue workers recover more bodies from affected areas.

According to Nepalese authorities, the death toll from the flash floods has risen to more than 1,000. At the same time, more than 12,000 people have been rescued, while approximately 4,000 people remain missing.

Search and rescue teams are continuing operations in several affected locations as authorities work to locate missing people and provide assistance to communities facing the aftermath of the floods.

The humanitarian situation has prompted continued international assistance, with India playing a significant role in the immediate relief response.

India-Nepal Relief Efforts Begin After Modi-Shah Call
India's emergency response began shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah on August 26, the day the flash floods struck the Himalayan nation.

During the conversation, Modi assured Shah of India's support and all possible humanitarian assistance to help Nepal deal with the crisis.

The subsequent dispatch of relief materials, medical personnel, technical teams and rescue equipment has formed part of India's continuing response to the disaster.

68.5 Tonnes of Relief Materials Delivered

With the latest consignment, India's total relief assistance to Nepal has reached 68.5 tonnes, according to the information provided by Indian authorities.

The supplies are aimed at addressing immediate humanitarian requirements in areas affected by flooding and supporting local rescue and recovery efforts.

The deployment of medical and technical personnel alongside material assistance reflects the multiple challenges faced by Nepal as it responds to the disaster.
