Nagelsmann Rejects Resignation After Germany Exit
Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has no intention of resigning despite their shock exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Germany's campaign ended after a shootout defeat to Paraguay in the Round of 32.
Ir was the third straight edition where the four-time world champions eliminated in the knockout stages, prompting widespread criticism of the team's performances and renewed scrutiny of the national setup.
Spealing after the match, Nagelsmann said he wants to lead Germany through the rebuilding process.
"I understand the disappointment, and I take responsibility for the result. But resigning is not something I'm thinking about. We have a clear project, and I remain convinced we can take German football back to where it belongs," he said.
The 38-year-old accepted that his side had failed to meet expectations but urged supporters not to judge the team's long-term progress solely on one tournament.
"We didn't achieve our objective, and that's painful. We have to analyse everything honestly, learn from our mistakes and come back stronger. This is not the end of the journey," he added.
Nagelsmann also said that the squad players had put in a lot of effort despite the disappointing outcome.
"The players fought until the end. Football can be cruel at this level, and small moments decide big matches. We win together and we lose together," he said.
The German Football Association is expected to review their performance, though reports indicate that Nagelsmann continues to enjoy the federation's confidence.
