TMC Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik Resigns, Quits Party Citing Electoral Mandate
Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik resigned from the Upper House on Thursday, becoming the third party parliamentarian to step down this week.
Baraik also announced his resignation from the Trinamool Congress, citing the electoral mandate and the party's performance in his region as key reasons behind his decision.
Speaking to the media after submitting his resignation, Baraik said the people's verdict in the recent elections played a major role in shaping his decision.

"The mandate in West Bengal and the verdict of the people in this democratic country was in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the party formed the government there. In my own constituency, we did not win even a single seat. The results in North Bengal were also not good. Looking at this mandate, I felt that it was no longer appropriate for me to continue in my position. Therefore, I resigned both from my post and from the party," he said.
Baraik further hinted at future political developments but stopped short of revealing his next move.
"As for what lies ahead, please wait and watch. Things will unfold in due course. Look, I am not very old. What I will do in politics in the future is something that time will decide. Please wait and let time reveal the answer," he added.
His resignation has intensified political speculation in West Bengal, particularly in North Bengal, where the BJP has been seeking to expand its influence. The departure of Baraik, along with two other TMC MPs who have resigned this week, is likely to fuel discussions about possible political realignments ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
