Aayush Sharma Opens Up on Struggles: Father Rejected Acting Dream, Cut Off Financial Support
Aayush Sharma, actor and brother-in-law of Salman Khan, recently shared how his decision to pursue acting was met with strong resistance from his family, especially his father.
In a candid conversation with Cyrus Broacha, Aayush revealed that he had initially hidden his ambition of becoming an actor. He moved to Mumbai under the pretext of higher studies and enrolled at Jai Hind College for a BMS course. However, instead of focusing on academics, he joined acting workshops, which caused his attendance to drop drastically.
Father’s Harsh Reaction
When his attendance fell to just 9%, the college called his father, Anil Sharma, from Himachal Pradesh. Aayush recalled that his father was embarrassed and upset, as was his mother. It was then that he confessed his dream of becoming an actor and showed his photoshoots and performance clips.
However, his father’s response was blunt and discouraging. He told Aayush that he lacked the looks, personality, and presence required to become a hero, even comparing him unfavorably to legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra. He also remarked that he wouldn’t even spend ₹50 to watch him on screen.
Cut Off and Left to Struggle
Following the confrontation, Aayush’s father asked him to return home and join the family business. When he refused, all financial support was withdrawn. The actor revealed that at one point, he was left with just ₹20 in his pocket while trying to survive in Mumbai.
Later, Aayush attempted to convince his father to invest in launching his career. But his father remained unconvinced, comparing the idea to betting on a “lame horse,” questioning who would come to watch him even if he funded the project.
Political Family Background
Aayush’s father, Anil Sharma, is a well-known politician, agriculturist, and businessman from Himachal Pradesh. He has served as an MLA from Mandi on both Congress and BJP tickets and was part of the cabinet under Jai Ram Thakur between 2017 and 2019.
His late grandfather, Pandit Sukh Ram, also held a prominent position as the Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology in the 1990s.
Aayush Sharma’s Career
Aayush is married to Arpita Khan. He made his Bollywood debut with Loveyatri, produced by Salman Khan Films, though the film did not perform well at the box office.
He later appeared in Antim: The Final Truth and Ruslaan, but is still working towards establishing a strong foothold in the industry.
