Anupama Chopra Makes Shocking Claim About Alia Bhatt Cannes Trolling

The debate surrounding Alia Bhatt Cannes trolling has taken a new turn after film critic Anupama Chopra suggested that the online backlash against the actor may have been part of a paid campaign.

Alia Bhatt made headlines with her much-talked-about appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, where she walked the red carpet in a series of glamorous looks. While many fans and fashion critics praised her style, the actor also faced a wave of criticism on social media. Some users mocked her outfits, while others claimed she was ignored by photographers during the prestigious event.

Now, Anupama Chopra has alleged that the negativity directed at Alia may not have been entirely organic.

What Did Anupama Chopra Say?

During a recent conversation with actor Shahid Kapoor for The Hollywood Reporter India, Anupama Chopra spoke about the growing insecurity among actors in the entertainment industry.

Referring to Alia Bhatt's Cannes appearance, Chopra said she witnessed intense trolling and negative commentary in the days following the event.

According to Chopra, a trusted industry insider told her that the backlash may have been the result of a paid public relations campaign targeting the actor.

She revealed that the source, whom she described as someone deeply embedded within the film industry, claimed that certain actors are becoming increasingly insecure and are resorting to aggressive tactics to undermine their competitors.

Chopra admitted she found the suggestion difficult to understand and questioned why such behaviour would occur in the industry.

Alia Bhatt Responds to Cannes Critics

The Alia Bhatt Cannes trolling controversy gained momentum after social media users criticised her red-carpet appearances and questioned her popularity at the international event.

However, the actor responded to one of the trolls with a witty comeback.

Sharing a video showcasing her ivory silk saree-gown look from Cannes, Alia received a comment that read, “What a pity, no one noticed you.”

The actor replied, “Why pity love? You noticed me :)”, earning praise from fans for handling the criticism with grace and humour.

Celebrities Rally Behind Alia Bhatt

Several celebrities also came out in support of Alia amid the online criticism.

Actors Sonu Sood, Ameesha Patel and Aly Goni were among those who defended the actor and condemned the unnecessary trolling.

Despite the negativity, Alia's Cannes debut remained one of the most discussed moments from the festival, with many praising her fashion choices and global representation of Indian cinema.

As Anupama Chopra's comments continue to circulate online, the conversation around celebrity trolling, paid campaigns and industry competition has once again become a major talking point on social media.
