Asian Games 2026: Gulveer Singh Claims Second Silver Medal With Personal Best in Men’s 1500m

Indian distance runner Gulveer Singh delivered another impressive performance at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, winning the silver medal in the men’s 1500m final on Day 9.

Gulveer clocked a personal best of 3:36.72 to finish second, just 0.37 seconds behind Japan’s Kazuto Iizawa, who claimed the gold medal in a Games Record time of 3:36.35.

The silver marks Gulveer’s second medal at the ongoing Asian Games, following his runner-up finish in the men’s 10,000m earlier in the athletics competition.

In the 10,000m final, Gulveer recorded 28:29.38 to secure silver behind Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew, who won gold in 28:27.51.
Gulveer’s achievement in Japan underlines his versatility as a distance runner, having now reached the podium in both the 1500m and 10,000m at the same Asian Games.

His latest silver also improves on India’s bronze-medal finish in the men’s 1500m at the Hangzhou Asian Games, adding another significant result to India’s athletics campaign in 2026.
