Canada Create History With First World Cup Last-16 Berth
Canada captain Alphonso Davies is their biggest star draw, who said he will cherish the memories of reaching the last 16 of te World Cup for a lifetime.

Tournament co-hosts Canada beat South Africa thanks to a late strike from Stephen Eustaquio and entered the last 16 stage for the first time.
Davies was a second half substitute, as he recovered from a hamstring injury and finally made his World Cup debut.

"The ending was incredible. Coming on to the pitch, we needed some energy and I think the coach [Jesse Marsch] made the subs at the right time and get the win. [Eustaquio] hit a beautiful volley in the corner... it was absolutely top. We're ecstatic right now and happy to be continuing in this tournament," Davies told FIFA.

There were incredible scenes after Eustaquio's late winner when the entire squad celebrated together on the side of the field.
"You could see everyone was running on the pitch because it means so much to us. This is our second World Cup [in succession] and the first one didn't really go as planned. For most of us, this is a dream come true and we want to continue this run and continue pushing forward," he added.

Canada will face either the Netherlands or Morocco in the Round of 16. Asked how far they can advance, Davies said: "That is up to us. We knew we have tough opponents ahead. For us, the sky is the limit. We have talent on this team and we have motivation. I think the next few days will be important to recover and focus on our opponents."
