To make things easier and more affordable, chef Nandini Arora shared a simple homemade skyr recipe on Instagram on March 12, 2026. With just a few ingredients and some patience, you can prepare this nutritious yoghurt at home.

Ingredients Required

Here’s what you need to prepare skyr yoghurt at home:

  • 1 litre skimmed milk
  • 2 tablespoons store-bought skyr yoghurt
  • Muslin cloth

Step-by-Step Recipe

Follow these simple steps to prepare skyr at home:

Step 1: Heat one litre of skimmed milk until it reaches 80°C. A kitchen thermometer can help you check the temperature accurately.

Step 2: Allow the milk to cool down to around 40°C.

Step 3: Add two tablespoons of skyr yoghurt to the milk and mix gently. Cover the container.

Step 4: Place the container in a warm spot and leave it undisturbed for about eight hours to allow fermentation.

Step 5: Once the yoghurt has set, pour it into a muslin cloth and strain it.

Step 6: Transfer the strained yoghurt into a container and refrigerate it overnight.

Step 7: By the next day, your thick, creamy, high-protein skyr yoghurt will be ready to enjoy.
